Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)

Program Length: This program normally takes 6-10 months to complete depending on the frequency of attendance. 18 weeks full-time, 36 weeks part-time.

Program Hours: 135 Hours (150 Clock Hours)

Successful graduates will be fully prepared and qualified for entry level positions as network administrators for Cisco network systems. In addition to preparing the student for the vendor neutral CompTIA Network+ certification, this program prepares the student to achieve the Cisco Certified Network Associate certification by successfully passing the following Cisco certification exams:

Cisco Configuration, ICND1
Cisco Configuration, ICND2
Prerequisites:

You must be a high school graduate or GED and be able to navigate within a Microsoft Windows environment using a mouse and keyboard.

*Program is not eligible for FAFSA funding.

Upon completion of the Certificate in Cisco Network Professional-Security Specialist program, the graduate will be able to:

Describe fundamentals and theory of computer networking systems and how they are applied in various business situations.
Install medium-size Cisco routed and switched networks.
Configure medium-size Cisco routed and switched networks.
Operate medium-size Cisco routed and switched networks.
Troubleshoot medium-size Cisco routed and switched networks.
Implement and verify connections to remote sites in a WAN.
Implement and verify connections to remote sites in a WAN.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment opportunities for networking computer systems administrators are expected to increase 8% from 2014-2024 (www.bls.gov). Part of this growth is due to the increasing use of the Internet and network technologies within the workplace. In addition, companies are expected to be upgrading their current technology to make it faster. The healthcare and computer systems design industries are particularly expected to demand these professionals.

Salary

In May 2014, the BLS reported a median yearly salary of $75,790 for network and computer system administrators. Computer system design firms; management of companies and enterprises; employment services; colleges, universities and professional schools; and elementary and secondary schools held the highest employment levels of these professionals with annual mean salaries ranging from $65,280-$84,280. California, Texas, New York, Virginia and Florida had the highest levels of employment for network and computer system administrators. The BLS reported that the annual mean salaries for these states ranged from $79,970-$89,930.

Additionally, PayScale.com reported in December 2015 that most network administrators with CCNA certification earned between $40,160 and $78,255. Systems administrators with the certification earned between $42,136 and $81,303. While network engineers with CCNA certification earned between $46,872 and $94,904, certified senior network engineers made $69,342-$121,842.

Program Hours: 480 Hours (600 Clock Hours)

Credit Hours: 32 Hours

Successful graduates will be fully prepared and qualified for positions as network security technicians and administrators for Cisco network systems.  In addition to preparing the student for the vendor neutral Security+ certifications, this program prepares the student to achieve the Cisco Certified Network Professional (Security) certification by successfully passing the following Cisco certification exams:

1. Networking Fundamentals, Part 1

2. Networking Fundamentals, Part 2

3. Cisco Configuration, ICND1

4. Cisco Configuration, ICND2

5. Implementing Cisco IOS Network Security, 210-260 IINS

6. Implementing Cisco IP Routing (300-101 ROUTE)

7. Implementing Cisco IP Switched Networks (300-115 SWITCH)

8. Troubleshooting and Maintaining Cisco IP Networks (300-135 TSHOOT)

Prerequisites: Must have one year of computer hardware and operating system experience or a CompTIA A+ certification with equivalent knowledge.

Upon completion of the Certificate in Cisco Network Professional-Security Specialist program, the graduate will be able to:

Describe fundamentals and theory of computer networking systems and how they are applied in various business situations
Provide network security for day to day business operations
Implement and support Cisco firewalls.
Implement and support Cisco Intrusion Prevention Systems
Manage and administer Virtual Private Networks using Cisco components.

Salaries in this field can vary widely according to job title, experience and job location: PayScale.com listed the annual salary range for the majority of CCNPs as approximately $48,487-$145,035 in 2015.
